Leggett & Platt does not sell adjustable bed bases direct to consumers, but our products are available both online and in-store from retailers across the country.

Will my L&P adjustable bed base work with an innerspring mattress?

Yes. L&P adjustable bed bases are compatible with most innerspring, foam, and air mattresses. Today, many people prefer an innerspring or hybrid spring/foam mattress. But everyone is different, and some people find their bliss sleeping on foam or air-filled mattresses. Regardless of which you find most comfortable, you can still enjoy the restorative relaxation offered by an adjustable bed base. If you prefer an innerspring mattress, it is important to note that mattresses with a border wire are not compatible with adjustable bases. If possible, it's a good idea to purchase your mattress and an adjustable base at the same time to create a personalized sleep system. Work with your local retailer to help you find your perfect match.

Purchase Questions

Do L&P adjustable bed bases come with a mattress?

No. The base is an independent part of the bed that replaces the boxspring. The adjustable-friendly mattress of your choice rests on top of the base. Please see the FAQs under "Mattress Selection" for more information about mattress choices.

Will I still need a boxspring?

No. A Leggett & Platt adjustable bed base takes the place of your boxspring. You place your mattress directly on top of the base. If you have a bed with side rails, the base fits inside most bed frames and then the mattress fits on top.

How much does an adjustable bed base cost?

The individual retailers determine the price of the adjustable bases. To get an idea of pricing, you can visit a local store or check retail websites.

Will I still need a bed frame?

No. A Leggett & Platt adjustable bed base takes the place of your bed frame. It has its own legs, which raise your bed off the floor. In some cases, adjustable-height legs are available so you can change the height of the bed.

Can I use an L&P adjustable bed base with my existing bedroom furniture?

Yes. Leggett & Platt adjustable bases are designed according to industry-standard bed sizes. The base easily attaches to most standard-size headboards with a headboard bracket kit or to both a headboard and footboard with the addition of a box spring frame. Even if your bed has side rails, the base is meant to fit inside most of these pieces, similar to a standard box spring. For platform beds, we offer zero clearance adjustable base models.

Does it require special sheets?

No. Leggett & Platt adjustable bed bases are compatible with standard fitted sheets. However, if you purchase a split king (a base where the left and right sides move independently with two mattresses), you will need to use two twin XL fitted sheets – one for each side.

Will my bedskirt fit?

Standard sizes will fit the bed, but you may have to cut holes in the platform of the skirt to accommodate the mattress retainer. If so, it is recommended that you iron a fusible interfacing onto the back of the skirt platform for reinforcement; this will help prevent future unraveling after washing. Another suggestion to prevent unraveling is to sew buttonholes into the bedskirt.

Features

What is Zero Clearance?

Adjustable base models that feature zero clearance are designed so working mechanisms do not extend below the base frame. This allows the base to be used without legs, e.g. on a platform bed with under-bed storage.

What is the zero-gravity position?

The zero-gravity position on an adjustable bed base mimics the position astronauts take during liftoff. The position is meant to ease the stress on their bodies as they escape Earth’s gravity. The position raises the feet to the same level as the heart. People who have back pain or who would like to increase their circulation often find this position extremely relaxing.

What does WallHugger® mean?

Leggett & Platt's innovation team developed state-of-the art technology that puts you at the center of the bed's motion. While other adjustable bed bases lift your upper body away from the wall – and away from your nightstand – bases with WallHugger® engineering lift you up while simultaneously gliding you back. That means your favorite book and the remote control are within reach whenever you’re ready for them.

Can I change the height of my adjustable base?

Yes. Many adjustable base models include height-adjustable legs. On models that come standard with solid steel legs, leg height kits are available for separate purchase.

How much does my adjustable bed base weigh?

On average the bases weigh between 150-200 lbs.

What are the differences between WallHugger and non-WallHugger bases?

WallHugger bases raise your upper body while gliding back, so your nightstands and favorite items stay within easy reach. On the other hand, non-WallHugger bases raise your upper body away from the wall and nightstands. Watch our video for a quick demonstration:
